We have tailored a loss of licence product, in partnership with Gallagher, to assist Virgin Australia pilots with the provision of insurance that maximises cover without exceeding your Enterprise Agreement (EA) reimbursement entitlement. That means you get competitive terms of insurance with no out-of-pocket costs. Of course, if you need more cover than what’s available, you can apply by contacting us.
Narrow Body Aircraft Pilots Enterprise Agreement 2021, Part 12-Clause 79.1(c), specifies an annual allowance up to $3,004.77.
Loss of licence insurance provides financial protection if you suffer bodily injury or illness that prevents you working as a pilot due to suspension or cancellation of your Class 1 medical certificate.
We provide two types of cover, permanent loss of licence pays a capital lump sum benefit if you are unlikely to return to flying and temporary loss of licence provides a monthly benefit if you lose your licence temporarily or permanently. Both types of benefit may be used to pay off larger loans and shorter-term monthly expenses
Permanent loss of licence (capital lump)
Permanent loss of licence cover provides a lump sum amount if your medical certificate is suspended long term and you are unable to fly for a living.
Capital benefits up to $600,000 dependant on age
35% benefit for alcohol and drug related illness
180 days waiting period
full mental health conditions cover
Temporary Loss of Licence (monthly benefit)
Temporary loss of licence cover provides a regular monthly income while you’re not flying if your medical certificate is suspended permanently or temporarily.
85% of income up to $15,000 per month
24 months benefit period
90 days waiting period

Professional pilots face occupational stressors every day such as irregular work schedules, work/life balance, fatigue, disruption of sleep and increased anxiety from having to take regular medical tests. However, many pilots are not properly insured, and you’ll find most plans have a full exclusion, only pay claims resulting from defined conditions or reduce the benefit payable. We know the importance of offering the widest coverage possible.
Access to our loss of licence insurance is available to individuals and groups with no association or union membership required.
